Art that helps us remember (Nelson Mandela)

At this time we are all aware of Nelson Mandela’s declining health. It is always challenging when a beacon of hope and change leaves us behind. It becomes both a time of commemoration and reflection. What we fear most is not the loss of a past era but the loss of leader, someone who we trust to make the world a better place, to fight injustice at a level that so many of us cannot.

Which is where art can play such a powerful role, in providing a shining reminder of what was and more importantly what could be.

Last year, Marco Cianfanelli, created this sculpture for the 50th Anniversary of Mandela’s capture. See more photos here.

This sculpture captures the past, present and future so well that it will inspire future generations to continue Mandela’s work.
